My art is about recording a specific moment in a time - providing a particular place and window into that moment and visually conveying it with a distinct and strong mood. Trained as an illustrator, I am naturally attracted to a narrative theme - using my work to tell a story. Though my subjects lack a specific likeness, my work depicts scenes of everyday people involved in everyday life - scenes which are accessible to all. For me, recording a moment in time, capturing the ambiance and feeling of a location is key- it allows the viewer to reminisce and remember another time.

Since mood is the dominate factor in achieving my story-telling, I choose color and light carefully so as to connect the subject to the background. Thus, this dictates my palette, muted sophisticated darks, minimal intensity, and subtle values, patterns of light that effect the atmosphere and play off of forms.

Whether indicating backlighting or using warm light illuminating soft and quiet interiors or creating fleeting streams of light designing almost a graphic or a dramatic quality, I strive to depict a timeless quality, natural and realistic, the subject conveying a silent but visual dialog with the viewer.
